Sharon & Ruby:

A Testament to the Need

Sharon found Ruby on the side of a highway in South Carolina, alone, frightened, and in need of care. Without hesitation, she picked her up, took her to a veterinarian, and made sure she was safe. Sharon then continued her journey to Texas, with Ruby beside her, no longer alone and already family.

From that moment on, they were inseparable. In a short time, a deep bond formed. Ruby was not just a pet. She was Sharon’s companion, her comfort, and her constant presence.

Life changed when Sharon was diagnosed with cancer. As the illness progressed and her strength declined, Sharon continued to care for Ruby for as long as she was able. Throughout her illness, Ruby remained by her side, offering quiet companionship during a season marked by uncertainty and loss.

As Sharon’s condition worsened and hospice care became part of her journey, she faced an impossible reality. She wanted to ensure Ruby would be safe, loved, and provided for, even as her own strength faded. With time to think, plan, and choose carefully, Sharon made the painful but loving decision to arrange for Ruby’s future while she was still present and able to say goodbye.
